Moro Camp Water Supply

The water supply project at Moro Camp, located at the northern end of Lake Kutubu in the Nipa District of the Southern Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea, involved hydrogeological assessment and water bore development to support infrastructure for the Papua New Guinea LNG pipeline.

The project required the development of a groundwater supply source capable of providing potable water for a 200-person camp, with a daily demand of 54,000 litres (0.6 litres/second mean flow).

Webster Drilling conducted a 101 m-deep exploratory borehole, fully cored to assess the geological conditions at the site. The initial 118 mm-diameter exploratory hole was later reamed to 149 mm to facilitate construction of a production well.

The completed water bore included a 100 mm-cased production well, with a 6 m stainless steel screen installed at the optimal depth to target the limestone aquifer. Hydraulic testing demonstrated excellent yield capacity, with a 113-hour pump test at 1 litre/second resulting in only 1.34 m of drawdown.

Based on these results, Webster Drilling successfully installed multiple production bores.

This project highlighted Webster Drilling’s capability to provide water supply solutions in remote locations, addressing the challenges of complex karst limestone geology while ensuring the development of a sustainable water source for critical infrastructure.
